Overview

Quincy College is offering courses to MA K-12 professionals to support the success of English Language Learners (ELL’s). These 15-hour course earn educators 15 PDPs which can be applied toward license renewal. This course is offered fully online and are self-paced.

All courses are approved by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and are listed on the Office of Language Acquisition (OLA) website as priority professional development opportunities. Fully online with no set times. Participants have the flexibility to create schedules that work with them best. Participants will engage with MA DESE licensed facilitators and peers through weekly online assignments/discussions boards

Registration is open to K12 educators in Massachusetts.

Requirements: Dependable Computer, Computer speakers, headset with microphone, and webcam.

    Applying UDL Principles to Improve Instructions for ELs. This course focuses on making connections between Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles and strategies to improve instruction for diverse groups of ELs (especially ELs with disabilities). This course will provide in-depth knowledge about UDL's three principles and related strategies. Participants have opportunities to practice developing lesson plans that incorporate UDL principles, also learn how to apply the UDL principles in the teaching process to address ELs' needs.

    • Using Assessment to Monitor Progress of English Language Learners (ELL's) in Language Acquisition

    Using Assessment to Monitor Progress of ELs in Language Acquisition. This course is an introduction to the critical components of how to use informal, ongoing assessment to monitor student learning and differentiation to target areas of instruction for K-12 English Language Learners. Topics include the types, benefits and uses of formal and informal assessment. Participants will create varied assessments aligned to differentiated instructional approaches that provide students with equitable learning opportunities.
